Hello lovelies! I hope you’re having a great Tuesday!
Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl and this week’s prompt is Opening Lines! Opening lines can make or break your interest in a book and more than once I’ve set a book down because the opening line didn’t grab me in that moment (more often that not I pick the both back up–I’m definitely a mood reader). For this week’s prompt I picked a few of my favorite, in no particular order.

1. A Darker Shade of Magic
Kell wore a very peculiar coat. It had neither one side, which would be conventional, nor two, which would be unexpected, but several, which was, of course, impossible.

2. Gideon the Ninth
In the myriadic year of our lord–the ten thousandth year of the King Undying, the kindly Prince of Death!–Gideon Nav packed her sword, her shoes, and her dirty magazines, and she escapes from the House of the Ninth.

3. Pride and Prejudice
It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of good fortune, must be in want of a wife.

4. Nevernight
People often shit themselves when they die.

5. This Savage Song
The Night Kaye Harker decided to burn down the school chapel, she wasn’t angry or drunk. She was desperate.

6. Vengeful
The night Marcella died, she made her husband’s favorite dinner. Not because it was a special occasion, but because it wasn’t–spontaneity, people insisted, was the secret to love.

7. Mockingjay
I stare down at my shoes, watching as a fine layer of ash settles on the worn leather.

8. Wintersong
Once there was a little girl who played her music for a little boy in the wood. She was small and dark, he was tall and fair, and the two of them made a fancy pair as they danced together, dancing to the music the little girl heard in her head.

9. Fahrenheit 451
It was a pleasure to burn. It was a special pleasure to see things eaten, to see things blackened and changed.

10. The Handmaid’s Tale
We slept in what had once been a gymnasium.

Are any of these some of your favorite opening lines too?

Some great ones here! I do love the Pride & Prejudice opening! 😊
