Top 5 Auto-Buy Authors

This Friday I’m thinking about some of my favorite authors and I thought I’d share some of my auto-buy authors. I love these authors and while I’m not through each of their backlists yet I always add their newest book to my TBR pile.

Links take you to each book’s Goodreads listing if You’d like more info about them.

My top 5 auto-buy authors:

1. V.E. Schwab

V.E. Schwab is my favorite author hands down. Her Shades of Magic series was exactly what I needed when I discovered it in 2015 and her books have had huge impact on me as a person and as a reader. I collect different editions of all of her books and run a feature account on Instagram showcasing photos of her books from other readers (credited of course). You can check it out here: @adsomfeatures

Schwab is one of the most versatile authors I’ve read. She writes everything from Middle Grade (Everyday Angle, Cassidy Blake), Young Adult (Monsters of Verity, The Archived), Science Fiction/Fantasy (Shades of Magic, Villains), Fiction (The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue (on sale 10/6/20) and Graphic Novels (Steel Prince). Because she has such a wide array of books I think she has something to offer every type of reader and I love helping my customers discover her books.

2. Marie Lu

Marie Lu was one of the first authors I read after becoming a bookseller back in 2013. Before I began working in a bookstore I didn’t read much. I was in the middle of undergrad studies and just didn’t have the capacity to read for fun. But when I took a break from school and started working at my local bookstore Legend was recommended to me by a fellow bookseller and I loved it! Up to this point the only other YA Dystopian series I had read was The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins so it was great to discover more YA dystopian work.

I read all three books in three days. Legend remains my favorite Marie Lu book but I have enjoyed all of her books thus far and I’m very excited to read her latest book, The Kingdom of Back later this month (hopefully).

Other books by Marie Lu include The Young Elite’s, Warcross, and book 2 in the DC Icons series: Batman: Nightwalker.

3. Brittany Cavallaro

Brittany Cavallaro is a new-to-me author. Last year I listened to her Charlotte Holmes series on audio through my local library and I fell in love with the writing and her characters. I’ve only read this series from Cavallaro as of yet but I’ve added her other books to my TBR pile and I’m looking forward to reading them later this year!

Other books by Cavallaro include: Hello GirlsGirl-King and upcoming in 2021 her new series Muse.

4. Jay Kristoff

Jay Kristoff is a interesting author for me as a reader. I’ve almost exclusively listed to his books, and the books he has co-authored with Amie Kaufman, (The Aurora Cycle, The Illuminae Files) on audio. All of the books have been amazing to listen too and I’m so glad I chose to listen to The Nevernight Chronicles rather than pick up the physical book. The only book by Kristoff that I’ve read as a physical book was Life L1k3 and while I still enjoyed that one I wish I had listened to the audiobook instead. I have quite a bit of backlist to get through with Kristoff and I’m hoping to finish The Illuminae Files and The Nevernight Chronicles this year and catch up on Life L1k3 and The Aurora Cycle (I might be a touch ambitious with this list).

Other Books by Kristoff include: The Lotus Wars, and upcoming in September 2021 Empire of the Vampire.

5. Tamsyn Muir

Tamsyn Muir is on of the best author’s I’ve read in a long time. Her Debut science fiction/fantasy novel Gideon the Ninth was my favorite read of 2019 and I can not wait for the next book, Harrow the Ninth. Gideon is my staff recommendation at my book store and I love talking about it with anyone who will listen. I can’t wait to see what Muir has in store for her readers and I’m so happy I found her and her amazing lesbian necromancers when I did.
