5 Audiobooks about Pandemics to Listen to While in Quarantine

Over the last few weeks life for a lot of us has gone from normal to practicing social distancing and then to living in quarantine.

When I was laid off from my job I knew I’d need to find things other than Netflix and Disney+ to keep me going.

But I also wanted to do something productive. So about 2 weeks ago, before all the stores closed, I picked up a bunch of yarn so I could make hats to donate to local shelters in my area later this year.

And a few days ago when the CDC recommended that everyone wear a mask out in public I found a pattern for No Sew Facemasks , washed a bunch of my old tshirts and got to work.

These ‘quarantine crafts’ have kept me busy and they’ve also given me a chance to dive back into audiobooks. So there are 5 audiobook recommendations featuring pandemics to listen to while in quarantine.

Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

Featuring an ensemble cast Illuminae is one of my favorite audiobooks. I’m currently re-listening to this one and plan on finishing up the rest of the series over the next few months.

The Andromeda Strain by Michael Crichton

A throw back to 1969 this one follows a team of scientists as they research a deadly extraterrestrial microorganism. Be sure to check out The Andromeda Evolution as well! Published in 2019 this sequel 50 years in the making was well worth the wait!

The Stand by Steven King

Steven King is well, the king of Horror and The Stand is one of his best if you ask me. This post-apocalyptic novel centers on a weaponized strain of influenza that kills 99% of the world population.

Wilder Girls by Rory Power

This debut novel has been hailed as a feminist Lord of the Flies, and follows 3 best friends living in quarantine at their school. They were told to stay alive. No one told them what it would cost.

The Passage by Justin Cornin

Now a television show on FOX (though recently canceled) this one follows a girl and her guardian in a world without hope. The path to hell is paved with good intentions in this thriller.
