With most of the world in Quarantine here are 5 series you can read to pass the time!
Shades of Magic by VE Schwab
A Darker Shade of Magic
A Gathering of Shadows
A Conjuring of Light
A grumpy magician turns to smuggling objects between worlds because he’s bored and gets in way over his head. Features a gender-fluid thief, a bisexual prince and elemental magic that sometimes has a mind of its own.
Saga written by Brian K. Vaughan and illustrated by Fiona Staples
Vol.1-9
Ages 18+
Saga was the first graphic novel I read and it lives up to all the hype. This series isn’t for everyone. It deals with very heavy themes like racism, abortion, and child slavery among others and some of the art is NSFW so keep that in mind.
The Nevernight Chronicles by Jay Kristoff
Nevernight
Godsgrave
Darkdawn
Ages 18+
Don’t let the footnotes scare you gentlefriend. They’re well worth the read so don’t skip over them! And just because the main character is 16 doesn’t mean these are YA books. Plenty of NSFW content within these pages. I also listened to these on audio and would definitely recommend them!
Legend by Marie Lu
Legend
Prodigy
Champion
Rebel
This was the first series I read when I became a bookseller in 2013. And with Rebel released just this year and a movie in the works now is a great time to binge this series! This series has also been adapted into graphic novels! (Minus Rebel)
Charlotte Holmes by Brittany Cavallaro
A Study in Charlotte
The Last of August
A Question of Holmes
The Case for Jamie
The descendants of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson meet in high school and are immediately suspected of murder. Detective work and teenage angst ensue. If you’re tired of listening to music while cleaning/cooking/not sitting in front of a screen, the audiobooks for this series are amazing! 100% would recommend.
I hope you guys are doing well. We’ll all get through this together.
